Dragonfly Great Blue Skimmer (Libellula vibrans) Florida

A few dragonfly photos as I’m in the process of some artwork.  I think that she was probably on her last day or close to expiring.  I think this because of docile behavior and because she looks old in the face and the jagged wing tips.

  1. I once brought a dragoin fly home that I found on a garden path. I thought it was dead and wnated to draw it. I left it in my studio and it lay on my desk all day…the next day it flew up to my window, I opened it and there it flew of into my garden. Was that a nap or what??? ;0) xo Johanna

  2. Some bugs are really quite stunning up close. I thought of you yesterday – lots of dragonflies around here lately and one flew into my garage as I returned with my car. I made sure he flew back out before I closed the garage door.
    Happy Wednesday, Leslie.

  3. I was kind of thinking it was an already deceased specimen… so yeah, I’d have to agree… if it was being that calm it probably was approaching the end. Insects, like people, do kind of seem to slow down a bit.

      • Is it weird that it’s kind of sad? Nice pictures, but thinking about what might have been going on is kind of sad when you think about it. I know when I’ve been whacking at bugs in the past, I felt more guilty about the slow ones who were probably almost expired on their own.
